- Rinse the orange and lemon under cool water, then slice into thin rounds, leaving the peel on.
- Slice the unpeeled ginger into thin coins.
- Pour the apple cider into a large pot over medium heat.
- Stir in the honey until fully dissolved.
- Add the cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, star anise, ginger slices, and grated nutmeg to the pot.
- Gently stir in the orange and lemon slices.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, then reduce heat to low.
- Simmer uncovered for 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Taste and, if too strong, stir in up to 1 cup of hot water to dilute.
- Ladle into mugs, straining out solids if desired, and serve warm.
Notes
For an adult version, stir in 1 cup of brandy or dark rum after simmering. Keep leftovers refrigerated for up to 5 days and reheat gently on the stove.
