Ingredients

Turmeric Shot
  • 1/2 cup filtered water
  • 2 teaspoons fresh turmeric grated (or 1 teaspoon turmeric powder)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon about 1 tablespoon
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey or maple syrup
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Measuring spoons
  • Measuring cups
  • Juicer or citrus press
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • Small whisk
  • Shot glasses
  • Microplane grater

Method

  1. Grate the fresh turmeric and ginger using a microplane; set aside.
  2. Pour 1/2 cup filtered water into a small saucepan and heat over medium until it reaches a gentle simmer, about 2 minutes.
  3. Stir in the grated turmeric and ginger (or turmeric powder) and whisk for 30 seconds to infuse the water.
  4. Add the black pepper and optional cayenne, whisking for another 20 seconds to combine.
  5. Remove the pan from heat and let the mixture cool for 30 seconds until warm but not hot.
  6. Strain the liquid through a fine-mesh strainer into a measuring cup, pressing on the solids to extract all liquid.
  7. Whisk in lemon juice, honey (or maple syrup), and a pinch of sea salt until the honey is fully dissolved.
  8. Taste and adjust sweetness or citrus to preference.
  9. Divide the liquid evenly into 4 shot glasses and serve warm, or refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
