Ingredients

Main
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth or vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Optional: fresh parsley for garnish

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Wooden spoon or rice paddle
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Fork

Method

  1. Place your saucepan over medium heat and add the butter.
  2. Once melted, add minced garlic and stir constantly for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned.
  3. Pour the uncooked rice into the saucepan and stir continuously for 1-2 minutes, coating each grain in the butter and garlic mixture.
  4. Carefully add your broth to the saucepan, stirring gently to combine.
  5. Add the salt, black pepper, thyme, and garlic powder to the saucepan and stir well.
  6. Increase heat to medium-high and let the rice and broth come to a full rolling boil for about 2-3 minutes.
  7. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and place the lid on the saucepan.
  8. Set a timer for 18 minutes and resist the urge to peek or stir.
  9. When the timer goes off, remove the saucepan from heat but keep the lid on and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  10. Remove the lid carefully, fluff the rice gently with a fork, and transfer to a serving bowl.

Notes
