Ingredients

Main
  • 1 black tea bag preferably Earl Grey
  • 8 ounces hot water just off boiling
  • 3 ounces whole milk or milk of choice
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon honey or sugar optional, to taste
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon optional garnish

Equipment

  • Kettle or pot for boiling water
  • Tea cup or mug (12 ounces or larger)
  • Tea infuser or tea strainer
  • Small saucepan (for warming milk)
  • Whisk or milk frother
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Measuring spoons

Method

  1. Fill your kettle with fresh water and bring it to just below boiling, around 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Place your tea bag directly into your mug to warm it.
  3. Carefully pour the hot water over the tea bag, filling your cup about two-thirds full.
  4. Let the tea steep for three to four minutes.
  5. While the tea steeps, pour your milk into a small saucepan and warm it gently over medium-low heat.
  6. After steeping, carefully remove the tea bag from your cup.
  7. Stir the vanilla extract into the hot tea.
  8. Slowly pour the warm milk into the tea, holding the liquid back with a spoon for a layered effect.
  9. Stir in honey or sugar if desired.

Notes

Serve hot and enjoy it as an elegant afternoon drink.
