Ingredients

Main
  • 2 tablespoons beeswax
  • 2 tablespoons shea butter
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon jojoba oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon vitamin E oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon mica powder cosmetic grade
  • 2 drops vanilla essential oil or flavor
  • pinch rose quartz powder optional for color

Equipment

  • Double boiler or heatproof bowl
  • Thermometer (optional)
  • Wooden spoon or silicone spatula
  • 12 empty lip balm tubes or small glass jars
  • Measuring spoons and cups
  • Small funnel
  • Paper towels for cleanup

Method

  1. Fill the bottom pot of a double boiler with about an inch of water and bring it to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  2. Place a heatproof bowl on top of the pot, ensuring it does not touch the water.
  3. Add the beeswax to the bowl and let it melt slowly while stirring occasionally.
  4. Once the beeswax is mostly melted, add the shea butter and coconut oil, stirring gently until completely melted and smooth (about 2 minutes).
  5. Remove the bowl from heat and stir in the jojoba oil and vitamin E oil.
  6. Sift in the mica powder and stir for about 30 seconds to ensure an even distribution.
  7. Add the essential oil drops and optional rose quartz powder; stir until fully incorporated.
  8. Let the mixture cool for 1 minute, then use a small funnel to pour it into lip balm tubes, filling each almost to the top.
  9. Allow the filled tubes to cool at room temperature for at least 2 hours before capping.
