Ingredients
  

Cake
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup natural peanut butter unsweetened, no xylitol
  • 3/4 cup pure pumpkin puree
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
Optional Frosting
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt unsweetened
  • 1 tablespoon natural peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon honey

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8-inch round cake pan with parchment paper or lightly coat with non-stick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together whole wheat flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, stir together peanut butter, pumpkin puree, eggs, and applesauce until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir just until no streaks of flour remain; do not overmix.
  5. Transfer batter to the prepared pan and smooth the top evenly.
  6. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a cooling rack and let cool completely.
  8. For optional frosting, whisk yogurt, peanut butter, and honey until creamy.
  9. Once the cake is fully cooled, spread the frosting on top, slice into 8–12 pieces, and serve appropriate portions to your dog.

Notes

Store leftovers refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 5 days or freeze slices for up to 3 months.
