Method
- Fill a margarita glass with ice to chill while you prepare the drink.
- Pour sea salt (or toasted coconut flakes) into a shallow dish. Rub a lime wheel around the rim of the glass, then dip the rim into the salt or coconut to coat evenly.
- Discard the ice from the glass and set the prepared glass aside.
- Using a jigger, add 1 1/2 ounces silver tequila and 1 ounce coconut rum to a cocktail shaker.
- Add 3/4 ounce fresh lime juice and 1/2 ounce orange liqueur to the shaker.
- Pour in 1/2 ounce simple syrup (or coconut syrup) and a small pinch of sea salt.
- Fill the shaker three-quarters full with ice cubes, seal, and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is frosty.
- Strain the margarita into the prepared glass filled with fresh ice, taking care not to disturb the rim.
- Garnish with a lime wheel and serve immediately.
Notes
Adjust sweetness or tartness to taste by adding a splash more simple syrup or lime juice before shaking. For a spicy variation, add a slice of jalapeño to the shaker.
