Ingredients

Main
  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves loosely packed
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 1/4 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup water plus more as needed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of cumin optional

Equipment

  • Blender or food processor
  • Cutting board
  • Chef's knife
  • Measuring spoons
  • Measuring cups
  • Serving bowl

Method

  1. Halve the avocados lengthwise, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a blender or food processor.
  2. Immediately add the lime juice to prevent browning.
  3. Add the cilantro leaves and minced garlic.
  4. Spoon in the sour cream or Greek yogurt.
  5. Pour in 1/4 cup of water.
  6. Season with salt, black pepper, and a pinch of cumin if using.
  7. Blend on high for 30–60 seconds until silky and smooth, scraping down the sides as needed.
  8. Taste and adjust with additional lime juice, salt, or water to reach desired flavor and consistency.
  9. Transfer to a serving bowl and serve immediately, or cover with plastic wrap pressed directly on the surface and refrigerate for up to 2 hours.

Notes

For a thinner drizzle consistency, blend in additional water 1 tablespoon at a time until pourable. To slow browning, press plastic wrap directly on the surface or place an avocado pit in the crema before refrigerating.
